In Loving Memory of Dora Elia Alvarez
August 6, 1945 – May 4, 2026

Dora Elia Alvarez was born on August 6, 1945, in La Villa de Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico. She met her future husband while working for El Gráfico newspaper in Matamoros, Mexico. On September 14, 1968, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jose Antonio Alvarez, with whom she built a loving family and a life centered on faith, strength, and devotion. On June 23, 1975, Dora and Antonio established permanent residency in Texas to raise their children in the United States.

Dora dedicated much of her life to raising her children as a devoted homemaker. She later worked in food service for the La Feria and Rowlett Independent School Districts for 23 years. Dora was also a lifelong, well-known self-taught seamstress whose talents included creating quinceañera, wedding, and prom dresses — including one of her daughter’s wedding gowns.

Dora was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria. She generously shared her time and talents supporting church fundraising events, where she became well known for her famous tamales and delicious hojarascas, lovingly made for her community and parish family.

In 2003, Dora moved to the Dallas area to be closer to her grandchildren. She was a loving grandmother affectionately known as “Noni” and “Abuelita Dora,” roles she treasured deeply.

Dora proudly accomplished the American Dream by becoming a United States citizen in 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene Rodriguez and Nicanor Rodriguez, and by her brothers Armando Rodriguez, Adalberto Rodriguez, and Miguel Rodriguez.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jose Antonio Alvarez; her brother Jose N. Rodriguez of Florida; her sister Lupita Casarez and brother Jorge Rodriguez of South Texas.

Dora leaves behind her beloved children: Alicia McLean; Gabriela Gonzales and husband Julius Gonzales; Dora Alvarez; Antonio Alvarez and wife Raquel Alvarez; Marco Alvarez and fiancée Cynthia Watkins; and Adan Alvarez and wife Crisanne Alvarez.

She was also a proud and devoted grandmother to Adrian Gonzales, Olivia McLean, Marcus Alvarez, Lauren Alvarez, Natalia McLean, and Eliana and Elisa Gonzales, all of whom brought great joy to her life.

Dora will be remembered for her love of family, her caring heart, and the generosity she shared with everyone who knew her. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

A memorial service will be held on May 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at:

A short rosary and bilingual service will be officiated by Father Alfredo Garcia.

In lieu of flower arrangements, the family requests potted plants with roses. Dora found great joy in planting and caring for her garden, a passion her family will continue in her honor.

Dora Elia Alvarez nació el 6 de agosto de 1945 en La Villa de Guerrero, Coahuila, México. Conoció a quien sería el amor de su vida mientras trabajaba para el periódico El Gráfico en Matamoros, México. El 14 de septiembre de 1968 contrajo matrimonio con Jose Antonio Alvarez, con quien formó una familia llena de amor y una vida basada en la fe, la fortaleza y la dedicación. El 23 de junio de 1975, Dora y Antonio establecieron su residencia permanente en Texas para criar a sus hijos en los Estados Unidos.

Dora dedicó gran parte de su vida a criar a sus hijos como una madre y ama de casa ejemplar. Más adelante trabajó en el servicio de alimentos para los distritos escolares de La Feria y Rowlett  durante 23 años. Dora también fue una reconocida costurera autodidacta durante toda su vida, con gran talento para confeccionar vestidos de quinceañera, bodas y graduaciones, incluyendo el vestido de novia de una de sus hijas.

En el año 2003, Dora se mudó al área de Dallas para estar más cerca de sus nietos. Fue una abuela amorosa, conocida cariñosamente como “Noni” y “Abuelita Dora,” títulos que llevaba con gran orgullo y amor.

Dora cumplió el Sueño Americano al convertirse en ciudadana de los Estados Unidos en el año 2015.

Dora fue precedida en la muerte por sus padres, Irene Rodriguez y Nicanor Rodriguez, y por sus hermanos Armando Rodriguez, Adalberto Rodriguez y Miguel Rodriguez.

Le sobreviven su amado esposo, Jose Antonio Alvarez; su hermano Jose N. Rodriguez de Florida; su hermana Lupita Casarez y su hermano Jorge Rodriguez del sur de Texas.

Dora deja a sus queridos hijos: Alicia McLean; Gabriela Gonzales y su esposo Julius Gonzales; Dora Alvarez; Antonio Alvarez y su esposa Raquel Alvarez; Marco Alvarez y su prometida Cynthia Watkins; y Adan Alvarez y su esposa Crisanne Alvarez.

También fue una orgullosa y dedicada abuela de Adrian Gonzales, Olivia McLean, Marcus Alvarez, Lauren Alvarez, Natalia McLean, y Eliana y Elisa Gonzales, quienes llenaron su vida de alegría.

Dora será recordada por su amor hacia la familia, su gran corazón y la generosidad que compartió con todos los que la conocieron. Su memoria vivirá para siempre en las muchas vidas que tocó, y será profundamente extrañada por todos los que la amaron.

En lugar de arreglos florales, la familia solicita plantas en maceta con rosas. Dora encontraba una gran alegría en sembrar y cuidar su jardín, una pasión que su familia continuará en su honor.
