Bobby Gene Slocum was born September 6, 1929, to Robert L. Slocum and Velma Fay Shelton. He passed on July 4, 2026 in Garland Texas.
He went to school in first grade through High School in Dallas, Texas.
October 25, 1950, he was introduced to Velma Jones, by Jackie McGahee. They were going to Sears and Summit Church of Christ, but had never met. Once they met and began to go together and were exclusive to each other.
In December he joined the U.S. Navy, before he was drafted. He was inducted into Navy on January 8, 1951 and served until November 2, 1954. The night before he was to leave for boot camp, he ask Velma if she would wait for him and she said yes. They were married on December 26, 1953, when he came home on leave.
They corresponded by letter every day. He served in Japan. He was on the USS Ruppertus. He also served in the Korean war, as a radio operator. He also served on the USS Brice Canyon, until his discharge.
He is preceded by his parents, brother, sister and niece. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Velma Slocum, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
