Vicki Coachman was born on August 1, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, to newlyweds James Coachman and Mary Harper. She was a vibrant, outgoing individual who enjoyed time with family and close friends. As a young girl, she often went to Coney Island on Tuesdays with her parents and sister to see the fireworks. During this time, she also learned to sew, often creating fashionable wear for herself, her sister, and friends. As a young woman, she used her skills to create attire for nights of dancing. 

She received her formal education in the Brooklyn Public School system, graduating with her high school diploma. She entered the workforce shortly afterward, joining J.C. Penny Corporation, a job she held for 30-plus years.

In 1977, she married Cary P. Davis. Together, they had twin daughters, born the following year. Welcomed into the Davis family, Vicki built lifelong relationships that she always held dear. 

In 1983, after the loss of her only sister, Peggy Faith Collins, she became more than an aunt, helping to raise, nurture, and guide her nieces and nephews. That same year, she joined the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church and was baptized with her children and niece under the late Reverend Daniel W. Batts. She served on the Usher Board until 1988.

In 1988, Vicki made a difficult but promising decision to move her children to Richardson, Texas, to continue working for J.C. Penny Corporation. In Texas, she would raise her daughters, make more friends, and retire, watching the fruits of her labor manifest in her well-adjusted twin daughters, granddaughters, and niece. 

In her later years, Vicki enjoyed crocheting, making scarves and blankets for friends and loved ones; spending time with family; exploring restaurants; playing games on her tablet; and watching her favorite programs so she could discuss them with friends. She was a dear and kind soul, helping whenever she could and without judgment, and offering terms of endearment to whoever crossed her path. She had a contagious laugh, following insightful commentary, all while having a servant’s heart. 

On July 8, 2026, at the age of 77, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, who held her hand. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Coachman, and her sister, Peggy Faith Collins. She leaves to mourn her daughters, Shirelle Davis and Leslie M. Davis; two granddaughters, Sterling Jackson and Skylah Pinales; and her brother, Kenny Willis (Aqua); nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
