Virginia Montfort

Martha Virginia Montfort of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 17, 2025, at the age of 85.  

Virginia was born on July 1, 1940, in Corsicana, Texas to Davis T. Montfort and Mamie Lee Adams Montfort Willoughby. She graduated from California State University, San Francisco, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History/Fine Arts before earning her Master of Arts in Art History/Museum Studies from George Washington University.

Virginia had a distinguished career as a respected art appraiser, specializing in the provenance of fine art, including Old Master paintings, sculptures, furniture, silver objects, and fine glassware.  

A devoted member of the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, Virginia was actively involved in the Altar Guild, participated in both a Women’s Bible Study and a small group Bible study, and was a dedicated member of the prayer ministry of the Daughters of the King. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over 50 years, reflecting her deep patriotic spirit, and the Huguenot Society of America, honoring her heritage.  

Virginia’s love for art and travel defined much of her life. An inveterate traveler, she visited six of the seven continents, embracing new cultures and experiences. Her passion for art extended beyond her professional work, as she cherished the beauty and history of the pieces she encountered.  

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Davis T. Montfort of Corsicana, Texas and Mamie Lee Adams Montfort Willoughby of Arlington; brother, Davis T. Montfort Jr. of Dallas, Texas and sister, Frances Emily Nolley of Dallas, Texas. She is survived by numerous relatives and friends.  

Visitation will be on Monday, July 21st, at Eastgate Funeral Home in Garland from 10:00 am to noon.  

Virginia’s graveside service is on Tuesday, July 22nd at 10:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas.  

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, Texas.

What dreadful , heartbreaking news. . She encouraged me to paint, & we worked in election poll for Dallas County. Only heard about her illness and death yesterday. Our prayers are with her family and many other friends.
