James Edward Carter, Sr.

James Edward Carter, Sr.
June 23, 1933 - January 16, 2026

James was born in Spiro, OK, to Lillie Mae (Hodge) and Issac Clyde
Carter on June 23, 1933. He married Delma Dean Bollinger on
December 7, 1953, sharing life together until her passing in 2016. James
served his country and community, from active duty in Korea with the
US Army, as an officer with the Garland Police Department, to the 35
years with the United States Postal Service. James’s quick sense of
humor provided many opportunities for unexpected laughter. He
exemplified hard work, determination, and generosity, providing
tirelessly for his wife and their six children: Jim (Julie), Billy (Kellie),
Keith (Shanti), Gwenda, Kenny, and Terri. Among his greatest
accomplishments was caring for Delma for 13 years after she became ill.
A devoted father, kind and loving Grandpa to his 11 grandchildren, and
proud Great-grandpa of 13. James was a beloved brother and uncle. He
is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Eva Lee, Ardella Marie, Erma
Virldean, and Katherine; brothers Issac Clyde Jr and Crawford Lee; his
wife, Delma; daughter, Gwenda Jo Barnes; and granddaughter, Karina
Carter Gilbert. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 20, 2026, at
10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Garland, 425 S 9th St, Garland, TX
75040. A private interment will follow at 2:00 pm at DFW National
Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

Sending my condolences to you all. Uncle Carter was a good man! He had such a kind and loving soul. Even though I've not seen him in years, he and Aunt Delma were special to me. God bless them and you all as well ❤️
