In Loving Memory of Ismael Guzman Sr.

September 12, 1937 – September 1, 2026

Ismael Guzman Sr. was born on September 12, 1937, in Mathis, Texas, and entered into eternal rest on September 1, 2026.

Ismael was a devoted family man, loyal friend, and beloved patriarch. He took great pride in the family he and his beloved wife, Reyes Guzman, built together. He loved deeply, protected fiercely, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Ismael was the proud father of eight children: Ismael Guzman Jr. (Julie), Jose Guzman, Matias Guzman, Martin Guzman, Chris Guzman (Irma), Isreal Guzman, Mary Sosa (Andony), and Marie Gutierrez (Javier). He was also a proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Reyes Guzman, and his son, Ismael Guzman Jr. He also carried a deep and constant concern for his son, Matias Guzman, who has been missing for nearly four years. Until his final days, Matias remained in his heart and on his mind. Ismael never stopped loving him, praying for him, and hoping for his return.

Ismael was a man whose presence could command a room without saying much. Yet when his playful side emerged, he could fill that same room with laughter. A true jokester with a strong personality and unforgettable sense of humor, he leaves behind countless memories and stories that his family will cherish for generations.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Ismael spent many years working for Union Pacific Railroad, where he eventually retired as a foreman. He took great pride in providing for and raising his family. The strength, determination, and work ethic he demonstrated throughout his career were qualities he carried into every part of his life.

Ismael was known for being stern but loving, strong in his faith, and deeply devoted to the people he loved. His faith was an important part of who he was, and he made sure to pass those values on to the younger generations. He often reminded the grandchildren and great grandchildren to always believe in God and to be good in this world.

One of the memories his family will cherish most was his familiar blessing. Before his loved ones left, Ismael would make the sign of the cross, give them a kiss on the forehead, and say, “May God bless you.” This simple gesture was one of the many ways he expressed his love, and those words will remain with his family forever.

Ismael loved enjoying life and making memories with the people he loved. He especially enjoyed dancing with Reyes at family functions, and the two of them shared many joyful moments together on the dance floor. One of his favorite ways to entertain everyone was to air-play the accordion across his chest, bringing out his playful side and giving those around him something to laugh and smile about.

He was also a passionate Dallas Cowboys football fan and loved Texas Rangers baseball. He had a special appreciation for old-school cars and was especially proud of his beloved 1952 Chevy Deluxe Bomb. With his hats, khaki pants, white shirts, and unmistakable old-school style, Ismael had a look all his own—one his family could recognize anywhere.

Ismael will be remembered for his strength, humor, faith, old-school style, and, most of all, the love he had for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, laughter, lessons, and love. His traditions, teachings, and blessings will continue to live on through every generation.
