Fred Campen passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 6th after a short illness. Born in Canton, Missouri in 1932, he graduated from Missouri School of Mines and joined the Navy. He served as a navigator bombardier on the USS Coral Sea and left the Navy in 1957. In 1958 he married Jackie Fellini and they moved to California where he attended Stanford and graduated with a Master's Degree in Petroleum Engineering. After living in California and Canada, they moved to Dallas in 1966.
Fred's long career as a petroleum engineer allowed him to travel to Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Venezuela, and many other oil rich countries. He brought many treasures and tons of photographs (all on slides of course) back with him and always enjoyed sharing his adventures. Fred had a lifelong passion for flying - treating his family to trips across the country in a Cessna (aka a Pepsi Can with wings). He flew the plane - while Jackie handed out Dramamine. He even attempted to sell airplanes - and made quite the impression landing a Lake Amphibian on Lake Ray Hubbard. He also loved classical music and collecting rocks.
Fred and Jackie were married until her death in 2012. Fred took great care of Jackie after she suffered a debilitating stroke. Fred's love and care for her allowed her to meet and hold all her grandchildren and be there for significant life events including weddings, graduations, and many wonderful holidays. The care that he gave to her was a gift to his daughters.
Fred will be missed by his daughters Casey (Henry) Pennell; Adele (Jennifer) Caldwell-Work; Lisa (Patrick) Ingram; six grandchildren - Caeleon, Caitlin, Sean, Amanda, Dylan, Connor and 2 great granddaughters - JoJo and Willow, along with nieces and nephews in Missouri and New England.
Private interment will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Fred's name to the American Heart Association.
